All About Gaithersburg Maryland


INTRODUCTION
Gaithersburg originated in 1765 by being known as an agricultural settlement area also known as Log Town by the land purchaser Henry Brookes.  In 1970 after Mr. Brookes passing Benjamin Gaither married Mr. Brookes daughter Margaret and inherited the land which became Gaithersburg by the locals thereafter.

1.      Gaithersburg Community Museum – is a great place to remanence from the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Is full of old photographs, exhibits from the 1800’s to 2000. Various programs offered on a weekly basis and many publications available to read.         

2.   Seneca Creek State Park – is a public area of recreation for all to enjoy with over 6,300 acres along Seneca Creek and the Potomac River. They offer boat rentals, fishing areas and beautiful trails for both hikers and bikers with resting areas as well for scenic views.

3.      Bohrer Water Park- is one of the many water parks open from Memorial Day to Labor Day throughout Montgomery County, Maryland. This water park is outdoors and fun for all to enjoy.  They also offer putt-putt golf and picnic areas.

4.      Gaithersburg Observatory Park - was constructed to represent the Earth’s motion of an ellipse between observatory and the meridian pier, beautiful landscaping and benches are located throughout the park for people to enjoy both day and night to view the earth. The City of Gaithersburg and five other cities around the globe united by this scientific endeavor that begun over 100 years ago. All home to latitude observations which tracked the earths polar axis through star readings to aid navigation.


5.      Gaithersburg Arts Barn – is a theater that holds various performing art programs though the year. In addition, they host art exhibits and classes for all ages to participate with. They also have a beautiful gift shop that many of the local arts sell products for the public to enjoy such as jewelry and apparel.  

6.      RIO Washingtonian Center – is a lakefront development located next too I-270, a place where people of all ages can come, rent a paddle boat, walk the beautiful bridge overpass that goes across the lake.  Enjoy the carousel, eat at some of the local restaurants or shop.

7.      Monster Mini Golf – offers indoor mini golf for all ages, the golf course is glow in the dark, which children of all ages enjoy They also offer indoor bowling, great space for parties too.

8.      Muse Paintbar – For the artist they offer hands on relaxation, you can work independently on our art skills, or participate in one of there classes.  Fun for all.


9.      Shadowland – offers laser adventures for all ages.  From business building experiences to kid parties, it’s fun and local. They also offer glow in the dark golf and laser tag.  It’s fun.

10.  iFly - If you ever wanted the feeling of jumping out of a plane, with out the plane, iFly of Montgomery is a great place to check out.  They offer one of a kind gravity free experience.  You place yourself into a suit and a trained professional will join you in a turbo cylinder which creates a non-gravity experience where you actually fly. 

11.  Winter Lights Festival – occurs nightly at dark the day after Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day.  Located in the Watkins Regional Park, it’s a fun filled light adventure you enjoy in your vehicle while listening to holiday music.

12.  Gaithersburg Main Street Farmers Market -held each Saturday year round offers local artist, farmers and craftspeople the opportunity to share products for sale.

13.  Kentlands Mansion Gallery – The mansion is an historic estate founded in 1977 and   became a non-profit by the Maryland Patel Society.  For over thirty years the mansion showcases beautiful artwork by local artist and some famous. Open all year round and also by appointment.
